Awesome retrospective of Gogos’ work, mostly his portraits for “Famous Monsters” and other Universal-themed monster magazines and works his US postage stamp concepts were interesting.

I know it’s an art book, and Gosos’ work is obviously spectacular but the text included is mostly worthless filler. Early editions were produced so cheaply that the covers featured Warren wearing rubber masks.

Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed – with a title like “Famous Monster Movie Art of Basil Gogos”, one would expect at least I did that it would concentrate on his off covers of monster and horror magazines, specifically Famous Monsters of Filmland, for which he is best known by many. I enjoyed Gogos explanation of his love of color and his insights into the world of illustration.
